Public television will also broadcast live numerous matches of this World Cup. ZDF took over the first three days, and on Wednesday, ARD broadcast Germany’s first group match against Japan. On Thursday, three of the four players will be broadcast again on ZDF, before the live broadcast will be the first again on Friday.
But it’s just a piece of cake in terms of personnel. Alexander Bommes was originally supposed to host the World Cup matches on Wednesday. As he is absent due to illness, he has to take a break for now. Instead, Jessy Wellmer took over the position from Alexander Bommes and in addition to the “Sportschau Thema” program, he also moderated the live broadcast on the first.

Claus Lufen takes over the “Sportschau Thema” for the first time.
However, “Sportschau Thema” joins the broadcasts of the World Cup matches several times, so the former wanted to look for an alternative and now translated again.
According to the operator’s press release, Claus Lufen will host the “Sportschau Thema” edition from Friday. For the time being, presenter Jessy Wellmer will continue to present the World Cup broadcasts from the studio in Mainz.
Claus Lufen has been part of ARD’s sports coverage for a long time. Since 1992, he has been in action on many Olympic Games and football broadcasts. Many may know him from the athletic broadcasts in the first one, where he is the face.
In the program “Sportschau Thema”, which is a mixture of a talk format and a report program, Lufen makes his debut as a presenter. Already on Friday, November 25, he will take over the program from 11:20 p.m. with the theme “Sport. Strength. Politics.”

The topic will be Vortex about the bandage “One Love”.
Of course, the ban on the “One Love” bandage, which has sparked debate across Germany since the start of the World Cup on Sunday, should also apply. In addition, the Iranian national team players will be discussedwho remained silent during their national anthem, sending a signal against the regime in their home country.
